North Korean Soccer Team Punished For World Cup Failure

The team's manager Kim Jong-hun unfortunately got singled out for punishment and forced to do a construction job because his team's failure was seen as a personal betrayal to Kim Jong-un who is said to be the next leader of North Korea, succeeding his father, the "Dear Leader" Kim Jong-il. Allegedly there have been reports that it was already planned, that in case of a good performance at the World Cup, it'll be credited to the heir, to help ease the transition of power.
A South Korean intelligence source told the newspaper Chosun Ilbo that the team should consider themselves lucky compared to those athletes and coaches who were sent to prison camps due to failures in the past and caused displeasure to the regime:
Considering the high hopes North Koreans had for the World Cup, the regime could have done worse things to the team than just reprimand them for their ideological shortcomings. (newsweek.com)
